To kick of our Virtual Lesbian Library in 2025 we are opening with Fall On Your Knees by Ann-Marie Macdonald. This novel was her first, although she had already written several plays by the time of its publishing in 1996. This book is quite long so we’ve planned for it to last us the next two months.
The Virtual Lesbian Library is our online book club hosted over Google Meet every second Sunday of each month at 6pm. The link goes out to our mailing list, Discord and Instagram.
Join our Discord to take part in book club discussions throughout the month!
Fall on Your Knees by Ann-Marie MacDonald

“They are the Pipers of Cape Breton Island — a family steeped in lies and unspoken truths that reach out from the past, forever mindful of the tragic secret that could shatter the family to its foundations. Chronicling five generations of this eccentric clan, Fall on Your Knees follows four remarkable sisters whose lives are filled with driving ambition, inescapable family bonds, and forbidden love. Their experiences will take them from their stormswept homeland, across the battlefields of World War I, to the freedom and independence of Jazz-era New York City.” [x]
Fall on Your Knees documents the lives of the Piper family across the 19th and early 20th centuries to form a complex tale of family dynamics, secrets, racial tension and love. It also features a lesbian love affair and was recommended to us as a good book to read!
Context warnings include: incest, rape, abuse, racism and misogyny.
